As financial planners, we know we need to harness the power of social media to connect with potential clients. But if we are honest, some of the apps are confusing and time-consuming.

I have often ask myself, "Are you a financial planner? Or are you trying to be a social media influencer?"

Tough huh.

That's where this guide comes in.

I hope to show you a new and simpler way to expand your reach so that you can potentially meet new clients online.

Here's The Problem We Face

You've probably heard other top producing advisers talking how they managed to meet new clients through TikTok or Instagram.

But here's the problem, those platforms require you to:

  1. Dance,
  2. Design, or
  3. Film videos of yourself speaking.

The truth is, many of us are horrible at that - myself included.

Real talk: We are financial planners. We had to pass 4 gruelling papers to get our license. Our expertise lies in helping people manage their risk and grow their moneyNot try to master the latest dance trend or becoming a video editing guru.

Every minute we spend trying to figure out these platforms is a minute taken away from doing what we do best - helping our clients reach financial freedom. It can feel like you're stuck in a never ending cycle of trying to keep up with the latest social media trends.

And I get it – it's exhausting.

There's a new platform called Threads by Facebook.

Threads is different because you don't have to dance or make videos.

All you need to do is write.

This is amazing.

Threads is a new platform created by Meta.

It reached 100M users in less than 1 week after being launched.

Crazy.

But better yet.

It's a place where you can write posts to share your thoughts, ideas, or information. It's like having your own mini-blog or news feed. You don't need to make videos or fancy designs, all you need to do is write.

It's a great place for people who have important things to say and want to share their knowledge with others.

So Why is Threads Awesome for Financial Planners in Singapore?

I don't normally say this, but I think Threads is really going to be a game-changer.

Here's why: 

  1. Easy to Position as an Authority: With Threads, you're not just posting content. You're sharing valuable insights and advice. This platform allows you to easily showcase your expertise in financial planning. By consistently providing helpful and accurate information, you can quickly establish yourself as an authority in your field.
  2. No Need for Design Skills: Unlike other platforms that require eye-catching visuals or well-edited videos, Threads is all about the written word. You don't need to be a graphic designer or a video editor to stand out. All you need to do is write clear, informative posts. This lets you focus on what you do best: providing financial advice.

  1. Share Money Tips: Write about simple ways people can save or invest their money.

  3. Talk About Money News: If something big happens in the world of money, like a change in interest rates, write about what it means for people.
  4. Tell Success Stories: Share stories about people who have done well with their money. Just make sure you have their permission first.
  5. Ask Questions: Write questions to get people talking about money. This can help you understand what they need help with.

7 Tips on How To Crush It On Threads

  1. Write Quality Threads 3-5x Per Day:  Yes, that many times in a day. When you're just starting out, it's important to be consistent. This will help to followers engaged and to show them that you're active.

  2. Write 2-3 Threads Per Week: Threads are a series of connected posts that dive deeper into a topic. Aim to write 2-3 of these per week. This allows you to provide more detailed information and establish yourself as an expert financial planner.

  3. Get Big Accounts to ReThread You: If a large account shares your thread, it can be seen by a lot of people. Try to build relationships with bigger accounts and create high-quality threads that they would want to share.

  4. Network in the DMs with Instagram: Use Instagram's direct messages to connect with other users. You can ask questions, share ideas, or even collaborate on posts. This can help you build a supportive network and reach more people.

  5. Experiment with Different Types of Posts: Don't be afraid to try new things. You could write a how-to guide, share a personal story, or ask your followers a question. Experimenting with different types of posts can help you find out what your followers like best.

  6. Comment Under Large Accounts Early: If you comment on posts from large accounts as soon as they're posted, more people are likely to see your comment. This can help you get noticed and attract more followers.

  7. Turn On Notifications for Bigger Similar Accounts: By turning on notifications for larger accounts that are similar to yours, you can keep up with what they're posting. This can give you ideas for your own posts and help you understand what kind of content gets more attention.
